How ADRA Answers the Call of World Hunger and Poverty
World hunger and poverty are issues that are not being solved by the world's governments. It is unlikely that they will either. The real responsibility has fallen to humanitarian organizations and individuals to reach out and help those around the world suffering from hunger and poverty. ADRA is meeting this call to action around the globe by not only helping to reduce world hunger and poverty by providing food and humanitarian aid, but also by helping people in oppressed areas learn new ways of growing food, raising animals, sustaining life. ADRA is at work providing the resources needed by so many people around the world to just live. A big part of this is education, along with practical and proven programs to teach people how to grow their own food, sell the excess, and take care of their families. In remote areas of the globe, where world hunger and poverty are extreme, ADRA is making a life-saving difference in the lives of individuals and families, whole communities. Through programs such as the goat, chicken, and cow banks, ADRA is helping families learn new ways to provide for themselves, not just for the immediate, but for the long term.
In large cities, the explosion of populations, especially throughout Asia, has created situations where there is not enough resources and food to meet the demand. In many of these poor countries, people are migrating to the cities because their traditional homestead can't sustain their existence any longer. There just simply is no way to make a living. Technology only exists in the cities, so people migrate there believing they will find opportunity. Unfortunately, there are not enough houses, not enough jobs, and a lack of available resources to help these migrants once they arrive in the city. The result is that world hunger and poverty, in some of the major cities of the world, is accelerating at an alarming rate. Many families, in countries like Moldova, simply can't support their children any longer. As a result, the children living on the street is growing at an alarming rate. Some of these children are as young as 5 years old. ADRA works with the street children of Moldova. Children are invited to live in the ADRA house, where they receive food, education, and if possible, a return to their families once the family has undergone counseling. If this is not possible, these children, with the approval of the families, are placed into homes where they are wanted. These children's lives are being changed everyday because of the ongoing and long-term work ADRA is doing in the cities of Moldova.
Those are just a few examples among many of how ADRA is helping to fight world hunger and poverty in areas of the world that are in crisis. You can take a direct part in helping to provide this ongoing support to individuals and communities that need it most. Give today and help ADRA save lives!
