ADRA International Internship Program

An internship at ADRA International is a pre-professional work experience that provides students, recent graduates and those seeking to change careers with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a particular career field. For students, internships also supplement academic classes and, in some cases earn college credit. For recent graduates and individuals considering a career change an internship is a way to try a new job without making a permanent commitment. An internship is a way to test the waters in a variety of career fields to gain real-life experience. Short Term Internship - Summer (Academic) Internship - unpaid The short term internship will be offered locally 2 - 6 months in the summer or can be offered throughout the year on an on-going basis depending on the availability of meaningful assignments and the needs and capacity of bureaus to receive and supervise interns. The agreement may be extended.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an internship, candidates would have completed their first degree and are currently enrolled in a university pursuing graduate studies in the arts, social or human sciences, or may have recently graduated. Relevant studies may include but not limited to: International Development, Economic Development, Project management, Accounting, Contracts Management, Disaster Response Management, Public Health, Environmental Studies, Communications, Marketing or other programs relevant to Health, Education and Agriculture. Those who are seeking a change in mid-career with multicultural experience may also be eligible for a short term internship. Candidates for an internship will be required to complete a Federal I-9 form and provide documentation verifying their right to live and work in the United States.

Compensation

There is no compensation attached to an internship with ADRA International. Housing and transportation to and from the workplace is the responsibility of the intern. Insurance is the responsibility of the intern. Work related expenses will be paid by the employing cost center.

Current Opportunities

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is currently seeking applications for summer interns (unpaid) to work in our office located in Silver Spring, MD. In filling the position, an intern will have the opportunity to learn about how ADRA functions, how work in the field is supported and the complexities of managing and working in partnership with field offices. Interns will provide research and strategic planning support and will be acting as a team member. The intern will be supervised by a full time staff member who will also provide training.

Field Internship

The purpose of this type of assignment will be to provide a minimum of one year of training in the field to experience project implementation and to be able to interact directly with the project beneficiaries.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a field internship, candidates would have completed their graduate studies (in a relevant field) with some work experience. The Field Internship Program also encourages people who are seeking meaningful changes in their mid-careers, who have some experience with foreign cultures, some knowledge of a foreign language and have had a successful career with relevant work experience.

Compensation

Overseas interns will be provided with a monthly stipend, housing or housing allowance, accident, disability and medical insurance, travel to and from the country assigned and visa costs (these costs can be shared with the host country). Unpaid internships may incur some or none of the above benefits.
