Your help in 2008 allowed ADRA to respond to more than 70 emergencies around the world:
Burkina Faso $5,000
Democratic Republic of Congo $64,000
NORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA
United States $320,000
Costa Rica $10,000
Our world is in turmoil - millions are victims of war or disease, natural disasters strike without warning, and extreme hunger is spreading. Even if food is available, in some places the cost of basic items such as grain and rice is so high that people simply cannot buy them. In other parts of the world, there literally is no food to be found.
ADRA is committed to easing the suffering of so many who are caught in desperate situations. When you support ADRA, you support every one of God’s precious children we help.
Your gifts will provide much-needed food, emergency relief, medical aid, education, and development assistance, especially for the most vulnerable among us: children, women, and the elderly.
“My father is late (dead), and I don’t know where my mother is.” - This is how 5-year-old William introduced himself to our staff in Zimbabwe. Upon accompanying him to his home, our staff was shocked to learn that he had walked six miles by himself to the food distribution center because another child had told him that ADRA would give him something to eat.
William is just one of the thousands of children whom ADRA Zimbabwe is feeding. With your help, ADRA International is easing the suffering of victims of war, famine, natural disasters, disease, poverty, and other life-threatening situations. In 2008, your donations helped your neighbors around the world:
China: ADRA helped 12,000 survivors of China’s worst earthquake since 1976 by providing tents, tarpaulins, medicines, food, and water.
Kenya: Political violence forced thousands of families to flee their communities. ADRA cared for more than 24,000 individuals for more than three months providing shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies, water and sanitation, and post-trauma counseling. In addition, due to the high influx of newly orphaned children, ADRA constructed clean water and sanitation systems at 30 orphanages.
Myanmar: Hours after the destructive forces of Cyclone Nargis, ADRA, one of the few international humanitarian organizations already working in the Irrawaddy Delta, launched what would become one of our largest emergency responses. Providing immediate food, medical supplies, water treatment systems, mobile clinics, and Zodiac boats for supply distribution, ADRA workers brought much-needed assistance to the hardest-hit communities.
ADRA ministers every day to individuals who have lost everything in a moment.
