Abshiru lives in a small village outside of Mustahil in southern Ethiopia. When her youngest child, Halimu, was 22 months old, she became too sick to walk, and even breathing was difficult. The nurse in the local health outpost told Abshiru to take her daughter to ADRA's lifesaving program for small children.
"When I arrived at the ADRA center, the nurse measured Halimu's arm, weighed her, and began treating her with medicines," Abshiru shares quietly while looking at the ground. "My baby was very sick. She hardly moved, she had a high fever, and she didn't want to eat. The ADRA nurse told me that she had severe acute malnutrition.
ADRA has a long history of working to prevent the deaths of children under the age of 5. Children brought to our programs without hope prosper with simple medical help and loving care.
