Every year, ADRA organizes special programs and media campaigns to highlight development issues that are a particular challenge. Often, these campaigns are organized around an event, such as World Water Day. You can look for information about these programs here on the website and in special mailings throughout the year.

World No Tobacco Day

ADRA observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2009. Tobacco is the second leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 5 million deaths each year. One way we can help is by raising awareness of the effects of tobacco, starting with our own communities. For more information and resources visit ADRA’s World No Tobacco Day webpage.

The HIV & AIDS Crisis

In 2008, ADRA promoted and observed World AIDS Day. The global pandemic of HIV/AIDS has done almost unimaginable damage to the lives of children, women, and men around the world. An estimated 33 million people are living with HIV and more than 2 million died from AIDS in 2007. These deaths often leave children without parents or caregivers. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, there are 12 million children who have been orphaned because of AIDS.
