What We Do

our work

ADRA seeks to identify and address social distortions and deprivation in developing countries. The agency’s work is a representative expression of Seventh-day Adventists’ desire to improve the quality of life of those in need. ADRA invests in the potential of these individuals through community development initiatives targeting Food Security, Economic Development, Primary Health and Basic Education. ADRA’s emergency management initiatives provide aid to disaster survivors.

Food Security

Food security programs breathe life into frail and struggling communities. Emergency food aid meets short-term needs of refugees, internally displaced persons, and disaster survivors.

Economic Development

In countries lacking a reliable banking system or formal savings and credit institutions, or where the services they provide are denied to women and those who live in poverty, ADRA steps in with an empowering hand.

Primary Health

Stifling the potential of many children and parents are HIV/AIDS, high birth and illiteracy rates, and lack of access to health care and potable water. To combat this, ADRA establishes community-based health services and education programs.

Emergency Management

War, famine, hurricanes, drought, earthquakes, and flooding take devastating tolls on human life and inhibit development. To mitigate the effects of these disasters, ADRA offices maintain a disaster response plan and memorandums of understanding with partners and government agencies.

Basic Education

ADRA knows that education, the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, makes achievement a possibility. Seeking to empower children and bring new beginnings for those who missed schooling opportunities—especially girls and women —ADRA provides primary education for children, literacy, and numeracy training for adults, teacher training, secondary education, and support for vocational education.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The basis for its existence, its reason for being, is to follow Christ’s example by being a voice for, serving, and partnering with those in need.

support ADRA

ADRA’s ministry is dependent, to a great extent, on private donations from faithful partners who have made ADRA their life’s work. At the very foundation of relief and development, these donations develop entire communities, making life worth living for almost 24 million people worldwide.
