ADRA International will celebrate National Day of Giving by collecting donations for Emergency Cleaning Kits for distribution to Hurricane Sandy victims.

On Tuesday, November 27, 2012, ADRA International will join the United Nations Foundation and hundreds of other organizations in the first-ever National Day of Giving. With the hustle and bustle of the Thanksgiving holiday season just around the corner, the goal is to create a nationwide movement to highlight giving more, better, and smarter during the holiday season. This day of recognition provides people the opportunity to show that the holiday season involves more than finding great deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but how they can also give back in more meaningful and substantial ways.

ADRA International is coordinating and hosting the "Giving Tuesday" event at the Seventh-day Adventist Church World Headquarters Visitors Center located at 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to help Hurricane Sandy Survivors.

In partnership with Adventist Community Services (ACS), ADRA will be accepting donations of items to build Emergency Cleaning Kits for the Hurricane Sandy Relief effort. Area elementary schools and high schools are also anticipated to take part in the donation drive.

The items that are being accepted are:

  • Heavy-duty Trash Bags
  • Sponges
  • Scrub Brushes
  • Cleaning Towels
  • Liquid Laundry Detergent (25 oz. or 50 oz.)
  • Household Cleaner (12 oz. or 16 oz.)
  • Dishwashing Soap (16 oz. or greater)
  • Dust Masks
  • Latex and Non-latex Gloves
  • Work Gloves
