SILVER SPRING, Md. —In response to the earthquake in Haiti, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) launched this weekend a campaign to raise $1 million in the United States alone to help expand the emergency work on the ground, the agency announced. Already, church congregations, radio and television stations, hospitals, universities and individuals have pledged to support this drive. “The outpouring of support for the people of Haiti has been immense,” said Julio Muñoz, head of the Marketing and Development Bureau at ADRA International and the agency’s chief fundraiser. “This outpouring of goodwill will give thousands of devastated families a glimpse of hope in what has been a very dark last few days.” ADRA is accepting donations to the specially designated Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. One hundred percent of gifts sent to that fund will be directed to support the immediate and long-term development of Haiti, said Muñoz. ADRA is now also accepting donations through mobile phones. This technology allows for more flexible and accessible giving. “Mobile giving has truly become an great option for those who want to give on the go to a humanitarian response like the one in Haiti,” added Muñoz. “Already it is having an impact on our goal to reach $1 million.” To donate through a mobile phone, text the word "ADRA" to 85944, reply "YES" and donate a one-time $10 gift to ADRA's Haiti response.
